Accurate payroll is essential. The Deductions Report helps you reconcile paychecks, stay tax-compliant, and verify benefit contributions.
Whether you're closing the month or answering employee questions, here’s how to run the report effectively.
Getting started
The Deductions Report provides a comprehensive breakdown of all amounts withheld from employee earnings over a specific timeframe. In the Canadian context, this includes:
Statutory Deductions: Federal and Provincial Income Tax, Canada Pension Plan (CPP/QPP), and Employment Insurance (EI).
Voluntary Deductions: Group health insurance premiums, RRSP or TFSA contributions, and social club fees.
Garnishments: Court-ordered withholdings such as maintenance orders or family support payments.
1. Navigate to the Reports Dashboard: From your main sidebar, head to Payroll > Reports > Deductions Report.
2. Apply Your Filters: To get the specific data you need, you must narrow down the scope. The system offers several filtering layers:
Pay Run: Select a specific completed pay cycle.
Date Range: Choose a custom window (e.g., Q1 2026 or the month of March) to see cumulative deductions.
Pay Schedule: Filter by frequency (e.g., Bi-weekly vs. Monthly) if your organization runs multiple schedules.
Employee(s): Run the report for the entire company or search for a specific individual to investigate a discrepancy.
Location/Province: Useful for multi-province businesses to see regional tax breakdowns (e.g., ON vs. QC).
Deduction Category: Isolate specific types of deductions, such as "Extended Health Care" or "Group RRSP."
3. Download the File: Click the Download File button to export your data for reconciliation or accounting.
